Ofsted praises “inclusive” Bookham School

Eastwick Juniors is an inclusive school with a well-structure curriculum and high expectations for pupils. This is the judgement of Ofsted who, following a recent visit, found the school continues to deserve its “good” rating.

Inspectors were impressed by the strong relationships between staff and students. Their report notes that parents praise the school’s inclusive ethos, testifying that it is a reality and not just a claim.

Ofsted highlighted many positive aspects of the school’s work:

  1. Strong relationships between pupils and staff – “pupils are happy in school and know adults will always help them. Staff get to know pupils well and have the knowledge they need to care effectively for pupils’ individual needs.”
  2. High aspirations – “pupils take pride in their school and talk about their learning with interest and enthusiasm. Pupils learn a lot through the broad curriculum. This prepares them well for secondary school. ”The report also noted an ambitious and well-structured curriculum.
  3. Strong SEND provision – “pupils with SEND [Special Educational Needs and Disabilities] receive timely and effective support. They benefit from targeted support and are fully included in day-to-day school life.”

Inspectors also found that a range of trips and experiences help bring the curriculum alive for pupils. The report notes the “many additional opportunities that develop individual talents, for example in sports, dance, and music clubs.”

Tom Dell, Principal of Eastwick Schools said, “I’ve long been impressed by the brilliant job that our staff are doing and how hard our pupils work to meet our high expectations for them. To have this endorsed, once again, by Ofsted is hugely encouraging. Above and beyond everything else, it is wonderful to see that Inspectors have quickly recognised our commitment to inclusion and the positive changes such a commitment can bring.”

Eastwick Junior School is part of a federation with Eastwick Infant School. They are both within The Howard Partnership Trust, a values-driven multi-academy trust which aims to deliver life-changing education.
